Here’s an overview of the production process broken into key stages. For each project brief, you can use this structure to design a workflow and schedule that works for the project and client.
01. Research
This is the foundation for a good explainer video. The purpose of an explainer video is to make an idea clear to a layman. To do this well, we facilitate knowledge transfer sessions to gain a deep understanding of the client’s products, brand identity, and target customers. All of these insights inform the quality of the script.
02. Scripting
This is where the story starts to take shape. The goal is to talk to customers directly using language they would use themselves to describe the problem they face. In most cases, we intentionally stay away from complex language that could confuse the viewer. People should be able to see themselves in the problem and understand how the product/solution could improve their lives.
03. Styleframes
This is the part where you start to see some visual exploration in the form of Styleframes (visual representation of how the final animation will look). The goal here is to quickly iterate and fix on a design language that best fits the brand and the story.
04. Animatic
We create storyboards that will roughly represent the final layouts and compositions for every shot, which then are edited together with a rough soundtrack and voiceover. Animatics are a quick way to see what is working and what is not in the story, and a crucial step to hone in on the final direction for the video
05. Design
Once the animatic is approved, we take the rough storyboards and polish them into final designs based on the direction decided during the styleframe process
06. Animation
This is where we see all the previous steps culminating to bring the story to life. It is the most technical and tedious part of the process, and hence all the steps from 1 to 5 helps in informing the animation.
07. Sound
We put the final touches to the project in the form of a professional voice recording of the script, sound designing, and mixing to give the best experience to the viewer.
08. Final Delivery
We add the final touches for packaging the video and the project is ready to be delivered.
